Tomifobia Nature Trail

The Tomifobia Nature Trail (TNT) is a 19-km rail-trail in the Tomifobia River valley, between Rte. 141 in Ayer’s Cliff and Rte. 247 in Beebe (Stanstead). This property was purchased in 1993 from Canadian Pacific by Sentiers Massawippi, a non-profit charitable organization.

The TNT is a 140-acre linear park providing accessible, safe opportunities for all of us to rejuvenate our spirits by hiking, cycling, skiing, or simply observing nature, away from the noise, dust and danger of road traffic.

As of July, 2002, a basic trail consisting of a smooth, compacted rock-dust surface was completed throughout the 19-km length of the park, and a major tunnel installed under the Embury Road in the hamlet of Tomifobia.

Sentiers Massawippi continues, using donations from members and others, grants, and much volunteer labour, to work to complete and then to maintain this property as a beautiful linear park.

The TNT is first of all an ecological project, an opportunity to recycle and re-use this abandoned railway corridor in an ecological way. Our duty is to preserve and protect the natural environment —to allow the natural flora and fauna to flourish, to protect the banks of the river from development and erosion and the waters from pollution.
We recognize that in order to realize this goal we must minimize the impact of human activity in the park. Fortunately, the existence of the railroad bed allows, with a minimum of cost and disruption, the creation of a simple path for non-motorized recreation from one end of the park to the other.

This path offers a safe, quiet place where people can breathe fresh air, watch birds or beavers or turtles, and listen to the sounds of nature in the valley

Please help support the trail.
